Feature: 8 Films To Look Forward From Now To The End Of The Year

The year isn't over yet................

_______________________________________

So with us just over half way through the year and most of the big summer movies already released. I always get the sense that people forget about the rest of the year.

So here's my list of 8 films coming out from now to December that you have to look forward to.

1. Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes
Release: 17th July
Director: Matt Reeves
Writers: Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silva & Mark Bomback
Cast: Andy Serkis, Jason Clarke, Gary Oldman, Kerri Russle
Starting off we have the sequel to the 2011 smash hit Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes. Set 10 years after the events of Rise, most of the earths population have been wiped out by the virus known as simian flu. With Caesar the leader of a tribe of intelligently evolved apes, living quietly in the woods. A small group of human survivors threaten the already fragile peace between ape and man. Caesar will have to decide whether or not to defend his kind and go to war.
I loved the first film and boy does this look even better! With some of the most jaw-dropping motion capture I have seen in a movie and Gary Oldman as the villain! Come on how can you not be planning to see this. With glowing reviews already coming in I personally cannot wait to see this film on release day, which happens to be the day before my birthday which makes it all that much sweeter.

2. Guardians Of The Galaxy
Release: 31st July
Director: James Gunn
Writers: James Gunn & Nicole Perlman
Cast: Chris Pratt, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Zoe Saldana & Dave Bautista
Marvel have branched out into a relatively unknown corner of their comic-book universe by bringing some of their weirdest characters to the big screen. Abducted from earth when he was a young boy, brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits--Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon; Groot, a tree-like humanoid; the deadly and enigmatic Gamora; and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Quill discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate last stand -- with the fate of the galaxy in the balance.
There was once a time when people said that Iron Man was a huge risk for Marvel cause not many people knew who he was. Well we all know how that turned out and judging by the trailers for GOTG, I have no worries about this film being a flop. It seems that the juggernaut of the comic-book movie industry seems to be growing to new heights with no signs of stopping.

3. The Rover
Release: 15th August
Director: David Michod
Writers: David Michod & Joel Edgerton
Cast: Guy Pearce, Robert Pattinson & Scoot McNairy
10 years after a global economic collapse, a hardened loner (Guy Pearce) pursues the men who stole his only possession, his car. Along the way, he captures one of the thieves' brother (Robert Pattinson), and the duo form an uneasy bond during the dangerous journey.
This film came to my attention a couple of months ago but I heard Robert Pattinson and switched off, never to think of it again. That was until I saw the first teaser trailer and was intrigued. So naturally I researched the film and saw that it was directed by David Michôd (Animal Kingdom) and my interest was raised. Then the official trailer dropped and now I have to see this movie. It looks dark and gritty with Guy Pearce looking to be on exceptional form. Also this is rumoured to be the film where Robert Pattinson finally breaks away from the Twighlight image, but I'll wait until I see the film first before making any judgements on that. Although already out in the US audiences in the UK will have to wait until August to watch The Rover.

4. Sin City 2: A Dame To Kill For
Release: 22nd August

Director: Frank Miller & Robert Rodriguez
Writers: Frank Miller
Cast: Eva Green, Josh Brolin, Micky Rourke, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Jessica
Alba, Rosario Dawson & Bruce Willis
The VFX world was stunned with the first films near perfect visualisation of Frank Millers graphic novel. It was a slick, gory, neo-noir pic boasting an impressive roaster of A-Lister's. The new film set years before "The Big Fat Kill", Dwight McCarthy (Josh Brolin) struggles with his inner demons and tries to maintain control until his former lover, Ava Lord (Eva Green) returns, wanting his help to escape her abusive husband, billionaire Damien Lord and his massive bodyguard Manute (Dennis Haysbert). However, a love struck Dwight soon learns that Ava's true intentions are far more sinister than they appear.
Personally it's not the story why I'm excited about this film, and if you knew me I always choose story over anything else. But the visuals in Sin City are so attention grabbing it overpowers the story. Plus I'm glad Robert Rodriguez is back to direct instead of just Frank Miller on his own cause we'd all like to forget The Spirit.

5. The Equalizer
Release: 26th September

Director: Antoine Fuqua
Writers: Richard Wenk
Cast: Denzel Washington, Chloe Grace Moretz, Marton Csokas &
Dan Bilzerian
Denzel is back! And this time kicking some Russian ass. Based off the the television series of the same name, The Equalizer sees A former black ops commando (Denzel) who faked his death for a quiet life in Boston. However he comes out of his retirement to rescue a young girl and finds himself face to face with Russian gangsters.
This excites me a great deal because I've watched Man On Fire and Training Day more times than I can count on both hands. And the fact we're getting a similar story to Man On Fire, combined with the re-teaming of Denzel and Training Day director Antoine Fuqua, makes this in my mind a win - win.

6. The Interview
Release: 10th october
Director: Evan Goldberg & Seth Rogen
Writers: Evan Goldberg, Seth Rogen & Dan Sterling
Cast: James Franco, Seth Rogen, Randall Park & Lizzy Caplan
You may have heard about this film making headlines in the news recently. Apparently North Korea doesn't like it when a film about two American journalists assassinating dictator Kin Jong-Un. The Interview is an action-comedy about Dave Skylark (James Franco) and his producer Aaron Rapoport (Seth Rogen) who run the popular celebrity tabloid TV show "Skylark Tonight." When they discover that North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un is a fan of the show, they land an interview with him in an attempt to legitimize themselves as journalists. As Dave and Aaron prepare to travel to Pyongyang, their plans change when the CIA recruits them, perhaps the two least-qualified men imaginable, to assassinate Kim Jong-un.
Pineapple Express is one of my favourite comedies of all time and I thought This Is The End was really funny. So to see James Franck and Seth Rogen back together again, up to all sorts of mischief is always good with me. With Evan Goldberg at the helm it's hard to see how this film won't be cracking me up in the cinema. Plus with the whole North Korea thing in the headlines at the moment, this film went from obscurity to everybody talking about it. Just goes to show that even bad publicity can be good publicity.

7. Interstellar
Release: 7th November
Director: Christopher Nolan
Writers: Jonathan Nolan & Christopher Nolan
Cast: Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Michael Cain & Casey Affleck
Yes, yes, yes, yes! Sorry but this is probably the one I'm most excited about on the list. Interstellar follows A group of explorers who make use of a newly discovered wormhole to surpass the limitations on human space travel and conquer the vast distances involved in an interstellar voyage.
Well where do I begin on this one. I'm a humongous fan of Christopher Nolan and he's become one of the most consistent and sought after directors in Hollywood. If you look back you'll see that he's directed 8 films and all of them have been great! It's hard to name a few directors today with that kind of track record. As usual he has co-written the script with his brother Jonathan and has said that he was heavily influenced by Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odessy which just makes me want to see this film even more than I though was possible.
If you had told me 5 years ago that Matthew McConaughey would win best actor at the oscars and become one of the most wanted actors in Hollywood. I would have laughed and then spat in your face for even saying such a crazy thing. But after watching him in Dallas Buyers Club and the amazing HBO Series True Detective I fully admit that he is one of the best actors on the market, and even his 10 minutes in Wolf Of Wall Street was brilliant!
I am sold, sold and sold again on Interstellar and cannot wait to see it.

8. Exodus: Gods And Kings
Release: 12th December
Director: Ridley Scott
Writers: Bill Collage, Adam Cooper & Steven Zaillian
Cast: Christian Bale, Aaron Paul, Joel Edgerton, Sigourney Weaver & Ben Kingsley
Exodus: Gods and Kings is the biblical epic directed by Ridley Scott and written by Bill Collage, Adam Cooper and Steven Zaillian. The film stars Christian Bale, Joel Edgerton, Aaron Paul, Ben Kingsley, and Sigourney Weaver. It will an interpretation of the exodus of the Israelites from Egypt as led by Moses and related in the Old Testament Book of Exodus.
Although I didn't care much for Ridleys last historical epic Robin Hood, or his last two films for that matter. It's hard not to get excited about this one. With a stellar cast I'm hoping it's a return to form for the legendary director. Although with no trailer at the moment it's hard to say but I'm sure that won't stop the hype from building even further leading up to the films release.
