20th Century Fox land Shane Black to direct the new Predator re-boot.

20th Century Fox have recently announced that Shane Black, who you might recognise as the character Hawkins from the original 1987 Predator, has been picked up to direct the latest re-boot in the franchise.

Black, who has enjoyed a resurgence in his career off the bat of co-writing and directing Iron Man 3 has agreed to revisit the jungle to face the invisible alien hunter. What's surprising though is 20th Century Fox has made no comment on whether Arnold Schwarzenegger will have any involvement in the film. Black will write up a treatment for the film but will pass on script writing duties to his old Monster Squad collaborator Fred Dekker.

However with Black currently working on noir pic The Nice Guys and going into development for his 1930's pulp adventure Doc Savage, It may be a while before we see some mini-gun swinging action in the jungle.

*(UPDATE: Shane Black has set the record straight about the recent news claiming the the new film will indeed be a sequel to the original, not a re-boot)
